About this deal

Aged one to three years, añejos are smooth and rich, with more flavour contributions from the barrel. You may have heard an “expert” friend talk about how truly authentic tequila has a worm floating at the bottom of the bottle. Or maybe you’ve spotted a dusty bottle of Monte Alban (a mezcal that infamously contains said worm) at a dive where patrons joke about downing the worm as a test of machismo. But before you get duped by any of the myths surrounding this seemingly traditional practice, let’s set a few things straight, starting with why there’s a worm in tequila bottles: There isn’t. Vegan alcohol includes spirits, beer, wine and cider which are free from animal products. Like the food we eat, vegans choose to avoid non-vegan alcohol and any products with animal-derived ingredients. The most common non-vegan ingredients in alcohol are isinglass, made from the dried swim bladders of fish, gelatine, made from boiled bones, flesh and ligaments, casein, a protein derived from cow’s milk, and albumin from egg whites.

I’d love to talk about and appreciate mezcal without having to mention Tequila but alas, that’s just the way it is. If you’ve read my Tequila 101 guide: Everything you need to know about Tequila’ which is structured the same as this guide just about tequila, you will now be fully understanding of both spirits. In Mezcal production, ABV is determined by pouring a stream of the mezcal into a small vessel to induce surface bubbles. These bubbles, known as pearls by the Mezcal producers, will remain stable for tenths of seconds only if the alcohol content is close to 50% REAL AGAVE TEQUILA - Originating from the protected tequila-producing region in Mexico, Rooster Rojo Tequila is crafted from 100% Blue Weber agave sourced from local farmers of Jalisco Los Altos region and cooked for 10 hours, making it authentic and delicious You may of already heard that tequila has to be made in Mexico and is made from the fermenting of agave and distilling of that liquid. But that’s not completely accurate, because there's a bunch of Mexican spirits that follow that same guideline.

You may be surprised to realise that some beers, wine and ciders include animal products. That’s because many ingredients are hidden, such as isinglass which is used in the filtration process. Producers are under no obligation to list the animal products used in the production process, and so you often can’t identify vegan drinks by their label. Some of which you may of heard of, enter mezcal which we just mentioned, some of which you may be unfamiliar with, especially if you’re from the UK or American, spirits like Bacanora and Raicilla. These are all spirits that have to be made in Mexico and are made with agave. Mixto tequila uses 51% agave, technically an agave made spirit, and 49% cheaper sugars, usually corn sugar. Basically if you only have enough agave to create 100 bottles of tequila, why not half that and top it up with cheap sugar to double your yield.DOUBLE-DISTILLED, SILVER FILTERED, & EXTRA SMOOTH - Agave juices are double-distilled in stainless steel with pure local water that's been filtered through real Mexican silver for the smoothest alcohol with a prime soft and rich rounded taste

The reason people go wrong with this is by mixing tequila with sugary drinks or drinking mixto tequila which is not 100% agave. Tequila and mezcal both originate from Mexico and are made from agave, a form of succulent that grows in the Mexican desert. Both are widely popular throughout the world, but they aren’t the same thing. The myth, the legend, the confusion of that floating worm inside our tequila bottles. Some of us have never even seen one other than in movies. Is it even a real thing? Does it still exist? I’m here to tell you that yes it does exist, and yes it is still a thing. Answers as to why the worm is in the bottle in the first place is actually unknown, but there are stories. Some will say that the worm in the mezcal bottle is a marketing ploy. After all, think of all those myths we just had to bust to get to this point. Hallucinogen, flavor enhancer, boozy addition…the worm is none of that. But when the worm is in the bottle on a shelf, it somehow convinces people to buy that brand. Well today we’re going to put an end to that with this complete guide on everything you need to know about Mezcal. From what it is to how it’s made and all the resources you could ever imagine to explore this wonderful and somewhat mysterious Mexican spirit. What is Mezcal

Mezcal is a spirit we’re seeing more and more of in todays western world. But a lot about Mezcal still seems to be somewhat of a mystery. Questions like, is Mezcal Tequila? where does Mezcal come from and what makes Mezcal Mezcal? are constantly being asked.

Without further ado, here are all your questions about that little worm inside the bottle of tequila answered. Table of Contents It’s not just a difficult process, but an expensive process. The good thing is that it ensures that what you’re drinking is true to tequila and is of high quality. Turns out, you’ve been misled. Yes, tequila worms are real. And yes, you can still find them in bottles. There are a couple of things you need to know, though. Tequila can either be made in small batches or mass-produced, whereas mezcal is made on a much smaller scale with a traditional process. If I had to warrant a guess as to where this came from, I’d say that due to the worm being in the bottom of the mezcal bottle, it meant you had to drink the whole bottle of mezcal before you got to it. Meaning by the time you had the worm you were just about drunk enough to think you were hallucinating.Taste wise it’s got all the smoke you want from Mezcal with added grassy notes thanks to the espadin agave. Now before we move on to how to enjoy tequila, we must talk about Mixto Tequila. This is the one thing you should know about tequila.
